INEC Confirms Abacha as PDP Gubernatorial Candidate for Kano

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed that it oversaw the Kano state primary election that resulted in Mohammad Abacha being elected as the People's Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial candidate.

Prior to the clarification, there had been debate over who the commission considered to be the gubernatorial candidate, Abacha or Sadiq Wali.

Prof. Riskuwa Shehu, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), confirmed this development to newsmen in Kano on Thursday, June 30.

Abacha and Wali, on the other hand, emerged as winners of two parallel PDP primaries in Kano, each claiming to be the genuine candidate. Abacha received 736 votes to defeat his closest rival, Jafar Sani-Bello, who received 710 votes in Kano state's primary election on Wednesday, May 25.
