Don't De-Register ASUU — Nigerian Labour Congress Kicks

The Nigerian Labour Congress has register their displeasure over the witch-hunt against the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) by the Nigerian government over non submission of its report for the last five years.

ASUU dismissed the claims and said its audited financial returns for the last five years were submitted to the Registrar of Trade Unions as required by the law, prompting NLC to act fast saying the union had submitted its financial report up till 2021.

The President of Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), Ayuba Wabba, has submitted a copy of letters to the Registrar of Trade Unions and to the Minister of Labour and Employment, warning against moves to de-register or withdraw ASUU's registration license.

In the letter, Wabba urged the Minister to direct the registrar of trade unions not to be used to execute an obnoxious plot against Nigerian workers especially our University lecturers.

He said, the plot is a deliberate attempt to frustrate ASUU from submitting its audited financial report in line with the request of the Minister, in other to find an excuse to go after it's registration.

Warning against actions that will cause industrial disharmony in the country, the Labour leader said ASUU had submitted the account for 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022 respectively.

The letter further said, the registrar should accept ASUU's Annual Financial Report and Audited Accounts, additionally, ASUU should not be punished for demanding that the Government respects the Collective Bargain Agreements (CBA) it entered with them.
